By car

The campus of the TU Dortmund University is located near the Dortmund West interchange, where the A45 (Sauerland Line) crosses the B1/A40 (Ruhr Expressway). The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, while the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 leads to the North Campus. The university is signposted at both exits.

By bus and train

The “Dortmund Universität” S-Bahn station is located right on the North Campus. From there, the S1 S-Bahn line runs every 15 or 30 minutes to Dortmund Central Station and, in the opposite direction, to Düsseldorf Central Station via Bochum, Essen, and Duisburg. The university can also be reached via bus lines 445, 447, and 462. Timetable information is available on the Rhein-Ruhr Transport Association’s website, and DSW21 also offers an interactive route map.

The H-Train

One of TU Dortmund’s landmarks is the H-Bahn. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 runs every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this route in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, you can take the AirportExpress to Dortmund Central Station in just over 20 minutes, and from there take the S-Bahn to the university. Düsseldorf Airport, located about 60 kilometers away, offers a wider range of international flight connections and can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

Join the Buddy Program!

Every semester, Erasmus students come to Dortmund to study at our department. For many of them, this is their first time spending an extended period abroad. The Buddy Program is designed to help them get off to a good start and give them the opportunity to have a wide range of experiences. Especially during the first few days, it can be very helpful not to be on your own in a new country with a different language. But even beyond the initial period, buddies can enjoy many shared experiences: some meet up to practice their foreign language skills, others go out to party, meet in the cafeteria, or take trips around the region…
